Health Solutions Consultant – 14 month contract




Position summary:

The purpose of this position is to perform sales based processes and activities designed to create, inspire and influence change so the health and wellbeing of patients improves. These sales based activities include implementing value added offerings designed to influence physician’s behaviour to safely prescribe Purdue’s products for improved outcomes in appropriate patients.

These activities are designed to improve the knowledge and skill of physicians and associated health care professionals (i.e. nurse practitioners, pharmacists) operating in key health care organizations that employ a number of health care delivery models. These models include family health teams, long term care facilities, specialized clinics, hospitals, regional health authorities and others. The sales representative will also establish relationships with local stakeholder groups to improve brand access for our products and to identify future business opportunities.

The incumbent in this position has a personal commitment to continued learning so that their skill and knowledge continually improves translating into adding value to our customers.       

Results expected are the achievement of market growth targets of Purdue products which contribute to the annual goals of the company.             


Key accountabilities/essential functions:

Achieve call and activity targets against an identified panel of physicians, key opinion leaders, nurses and associated healthcare practitioners as measured by the company’s field force activity reports/system. 

Identify, plan and execute continuing health education (CHE) programs, brand programs and sales value added services and programs with healthcare professionals according to annual business planning objectives.

Partner with physicians and other HCPs to implement innovative health solutions that will ensure the appropriate and safe use of Purdue products and improve therapeutic practice management skills.

Identify health solutions opportunities in key health care delivery models located within the territory and work with his/her immediate manager to develop and implement programs/projects. Key health care delivery models include family health teams, long term care facilities, specialized clinics, hospitals, regional health authorities, academic institutions and others identified locally. Seek out various stakeholders in the territory and establish strong business relationships with them so as to improve brand access for Purdue products and identify new business opportunities.  Knowledgeable regarding competition and trends, practices and challenges related to the viability of Purdue’s business.

Maintain daily call records in CRM system (EDGE), include information on access, educational events, call plans and call notes that are consistent with established Purdue guidelines.

Complete a business plan annually utilizing the standard template and submit to his/her Manager by the given deadline. The plan should analyze territory sales and prescription trends along with call and health solutions activities.

Displays integrity and trust in the way the territory is managed, which is consistent with IMC guidelines, Purdue Pharma Code of Ethics and Compliance policies.

Organize and prioritize work activities to efficiently accomplish tasks and meet goals/objectives. Where appropriate, this should be completed cross-functionally, with other departmental support

Demonstrates an entrepreneurial spirit with a personal commitment to continuous improvement. Continually develops knowledge of therapeutic areas (Pain, ADHD, etc) and skill in relationship based sales techniques.

Share knowledge and expertise with others.


Education and certifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business and or Science
  • Valid Driver's License


Additional Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3 to 5 years of previous experience in the pharmaceutical or health related industry is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain credible relationships with health care professionals; Professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail, excellent organizational and territory management skills are essential
  • Excellent presentation skills and interpersonal skills
  • Computer software literacy and access to Email/Internet & Microsoft OfficeStrong analytical, communication and presentation skills.
  • Must live in or in close proximity to the territory
